Nuclear's speculative end broke with the AI-momentum unwind — Oklo -7.2%, SMR and enrichment rungs down 4–7% — while regulated utility NextEra led, +1.5%.
NextEra (NEE) led the nuclear basket Monday, up 1.5% to $78.51 — and the fact that a regulated utility was the leader tells you how the session broke. On a chip-led risk-off day, capital rotated down the nuclear chokepoint, away from the pre-revenue, milestone-driven supply rungs and toward the cash-flowing demand end: operating-reactor owners and utilities. Talen Energy (TLN), on the restarts-and-utilities rung, was the only other green, +0.3% to $379.77.
The laggard was Oklo (OKLO), down 7.2% to $32.21 on the SMR-platforms rung, with no company-specific catalyst — the high-beta reactor-developer names simply unwound with the broader AI-power-momentum trade. The structural read: Oklo, NuScale and NANO carry no revenue and trade on criticality milestones years out, so they behave as leveraged bets on the AI-datacenter power story. When that story derisked Monday, they fell furthest — NuScale (SMR) -6.9% to $6.70 and NANO Nuclear (NNE) -6.8% to $14.29 moving in lockstep with Oklo.
The enrichment-and-fuel rung — the one genuine physical bottleneck in the fuel cycle — sold off alongside the speculative names: Centrus (LEU) -5.0% to $135.31 on enrichment and HALEU, X-Energy (XE) -4.6% to $13.08 on fuel fabrication, and Lightbridge (LTBR) -5.6% to $5.73. Uranium supply followed: Uranium Energy (UEC) -3.9% to $8.83, Cameco (CCJ) -2.2% to $86.12, Energy Fuels (UUUU) -3.0% to $9.66, and the Sprott uranium miners ETF (URNM) -2.9% to $45.16. The forgings-and-components rung held up better — BWXT -2.7% to $139.92, Curtiss-Wright (CW) -1.6% to $504.16 — consistent with defense and naval backlog cushioning them against a sentiment-driven day.
Q3 earnings season is the next hard read: BWXT reports Nov 2, the first component-rung print to show whether datacenter and naval demand is translating into bookings. The restart rung's largest regulatory catalyst — the NRC's final decision on the Crane Clean Energy Center (the former Three Mile Island Unit 1) restart — is expected in 2027. The DOE reactor-pilot criticality targets remain the SMR rung's milestone to watch; Monday's move showed how little the market is pricing in for them right now.
