GE Vernova led on AI-power backlog momentum as the uranium and SMR rung pulled back, led lower by enCore.

GE Vernova (GEV) led the vertical, up 3.9% to $987.45, as the AI-datacenter power story kept compounding: an analyst reiterated a $1,350 target, and company commentary pointed to its roughly $200 billion backlog goal arriving earlier into 2027. GE Vernova owns the generation-and-grid chokepoint twice over — it dominates large-frame gas turbines, the fastest way to close the near-term power gap, and carries the BWRX-300 small modular reactor through GE Hitachi for the longer-dated nuclear build. On a session where datacenter electrons were in favor, the turbine-and-grid rung is where the money concentrated.

The laggard was enCore Energy (EU), down 3.7% to $1.04, with no company-specific catalyst we could verify; the in-situ-recovery uranium miner fell as part of a broad pullback across the fuel-cycle names, the kind of profit-taking that hits the smallest-cap producers hardest. The move is a rotation signal, not a fundamental break on the front end of the fuel cycle.

That rotation defined the tape: the EPC and incumbent-generation rung led, the miners and developers lagged. Talen Energy rose 3.3% to $323.09, Fluor +3.0% to $49.33, Huntington Ingalls +2.7% to $274.33 on the naval-reactor rung, Constellation +1.9% to $258.92, Mirion +1.6% to $14.35, and Vistra +1.0% to $139.75. Against them, the uranium and SMR-developer complex sold off: NexGen −2.7% to $8.87, Energy Fuels −2.9% to $10.71, Oklo −2.4% to $36.14, NuScale −1.4% to $7.79, Uranium Energy −1.0% to $9.36, and Cameco −1.1% to $85.69. The build-and-deliver names got paid; the fuel-and-first-of-a-kind names gave back.

The near-term calendar is quiet on hard prints, which puts the weight on year-end structural milestones. X-Energy's Xe-100 construction-permit review reaches an NRC milestone around Dec 16; the Westinghouse/US-government definitive agreements meant to replace the binding term sheet are targeted by year-end, alongside a Bulgaria Kozloduy AP1000 final investment decision. Further out, the NRC's decision on the Crane Clean Energy Center restart is expected in 2027, and Russian LEU import waivers terminate Jan 1, 2028 — the enrichment-supply cliff that underpins the domestic fuel-cycle thesis the laggards map.
