Huntington Ingalls led on a $5.1B carrier-overhaul award while small-cap uranium and the generation rung sold off.

Huntington Ingalls (HII) led the vertical, up 2.9% to $267.07, extending gains on fresh Navy awards: the Department of War awarded the shipbuilder a roughly $5.1 billion contract to refuel and overhaul the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, and the Navy added an order for 10 ROMULUS medium unmanned surface vessels. HII is the naval-nuclear-propulsion node this vertical maps — the sole builder of US carriers and one of two submarine builders — and a carrier refueling-and-complex-overhaul (RCOH) is exactly the long-cycle, sole-source work that defines that chokepoint. The read is confirmed demand at the hardest-to-replicate rung in the fleet.

The laggard was enCore Energy (EU), down 6.1% to $1.08 on no company-specific news — small-cap beta in a low-priced in-situ-recovery uranium producer. With spot U3O8 holding near the high-$80s/lb and the mining complex softening (the URNM miners index slipped 1.6%), the thinnest-balance-sheet fuel-cycle developer drifted lowest; enCore's structural issue remains that recent extraction has cost more per pound than it earns on sale. Nothing tied the move to production or resource news.

The session's texture favored contracted cash flow over optionality and penalized the merchant-generation rung. Despite a reported 20-year Amazon–Constellation power deal tied to a Maryland nuclear plant, Constellation fell 4.0% to $254.02, Vistra −1.8% to $138.35, Talen −0.7% to $312.69, and GE Vernova −1.2% to $950.49 on the reactor-and-turbine layer. Naval-and-components names were firmer: Curtiss-Wright +1.9% to $543.82, though BWX Technologies eased 0.7% to $137.00. The SMR developers were quiet — NuScale +1.8% to $7.90, NANO Nuclear +0.4% to $15.85, Oklo −0.2% to $37.02 — while the enrichment-and-conversion rung was mixed: Centrus +0.9% to $139.49, Cameco −0.2% to $86.67, Uranium Energy +1.7% to $9.45. Fluor fell 3.9% to $47.88 on the EPC rung, on a Q3-close tape clouded by a looming October 1 government shutdown.

The catalysts ahead are earnings- and licensing-dated. BWXT reports Q3 on November 2 and NANO Nuclear posts its Q4 FY2026 update November 15. On the licensing rung, X-Energy's Xe-100 construction-permit review hits an NRC 18-month milestone December 16, and the NRC's final Environmental Impact Statement for GLE's Paducah laser-enrichment facility is due this cycle — the domestic-enrichment unlock. The Westinghouse/US-government definitive agreements replacing the binding term sheet, and Bulgaria's Kozloduy Units 7–8 AP1000 final investment decision, both carry H2-2026 windows that would validate the large-reactor export rung.
