A quiet, rangebound nuclear tape on Friday — Lightbridge edged the board higher while X-Energy gave back part of its SMR run despite a fuel-fab milestone.
Friday was a quiet, rangebound session for the fuel-cycle basket, with the leader up less than two percent — a sign the tape was consolidating rather than trending. Lightbridge (LTBR) edged the board, +1.8% to $6.85, with no company-specific catalyst; the move is noise within a narrow range. Lightbridge sits on the advanced-fuel-technology rung — its metallic fuel design targets the same HALEU-dependent future the reactor developers are building toward — so on a newsless day it drifts with sector sentiment rather than leading it.
X-Energy (XE) was the laggard, down 4.1% to $15.08, easing even as its TRISO-X subsidiary marked construction progress at the TX-1 advanced-fuel fabrication facility in Oak Ridge — the read is profit-taking in the small-modular-reactor names after their run, not a fundamental setback. X-Energy owns two rungs of the chokepoint that actually constrains the SMR thesis: the Xe-100 high-temperature gas reactor and, more critically, TRISO-X particle-fuel fabrication. Domestic HALEU fuel supply is the binding constraint for the entire advanced-reactor fleet, so TX-1's progress matters more to the vertical's structure than a one-day price move does.
The rest of the board barely moved. On the uranium-and-enrichment rung, enCore Energy (EU) +1.6% to $1.24 and the Sprott Physical Uranium Trust (SRUUF) +1.2% to $18.99 firmed, while NexGen (NXE) −0.9% to $9.19 and Centrus (LEU) −0.2% to $147.07 eased — Centrus remains the domestic-enrichment linchpin as Russian LEU import waivers wind down. The reactor-and-utility rung was flat-to-soft: Talen (TLN) +1.5% to $304.42 on the power-demand side, against Oklo (OKLO) −0.7% to $38.04, NuScale (SMR) −0.6% to $8.42, and Cameco (CCJ) −0.1% to $88.07.
The catalysts ahead sit in the licensing and fuel-supply chokepoints. The NRC's final Environmental Impact Statement for GLE's Paducah laser-enrichment facility is expected around now — a step toward a second domestic enrichment route. BWXT reports Q3 on Nov 2, the definitive Westinghouse/US-government agreements replacing the binding term sheet are targeted by year-end, Bulgaria's Kozloduy AP1000 final investment decision is a H2-2026 watch item, and the Xe-100 construction permit hits its NRC 18-month review milestone Dec 16 — the gate that would move X-Energy from fuel-fab progress to a licensed build.
