The uranium fuel cycle sold off as investors stepped back from the mining rung, while the nuclear-power names held green.
Talen Energy (TLN) led the vertical, up 2.0% to $300.34, as the power-generation rung outperformed on a session that punished the fuel cycle. Talen anchors the restarts-and-utilities chokepoint the vertical maps: its expanded Amazon relationship — a 1,920 MW behind-the-meter PPA from the Susquehanna nuclear plant running to 2042 — is the template for monetizing existing nuclear baseload into AI-datacenter demand. On a day when capital rotated out of commodity-levered names, the contracted-power end of the map was where the bid stayed.
Energy Fuels (UUUU) was the laggard, down 4.4% to $11.60, caught in a double squeeze: a broad uranium-mining selloff and the same U.S.–China thaw hopes that hit rare earths, since UUUU straddles both the uranium-supply and rare-earth-materials chokepoints. It sat at the bottom of a fuel-cycle rung that stepped back across the board — Centrus (LEU) −4.1% to $151.31, Cameco (CCJ) −4.0% to $90.80, Uranium Energy (UEC) −3.7% to $9.95, NexGen (NXE) −3.4% to $9.63 and Denison (DNN) −3.8%. The move reads as profit-taking after uranium's run to multi-month highs, not a supply-thesis break; analysts note spot prices still sit below the 2026 average forecast.
The split ran clean along the chokepoint. enCore Energy (EU) held its Tuesday EPA-clearance pop, edging up 0.8% to $1.22, but the advanced-reactor names followed the fuel complex lower — Oklo (OKLO) −4.0% to $38.82, NuScale (SMR) −2.4%, NANO Nuclear (NNE) −1.8%. Reactor hardware and services were softer too: BWXT (BWXT) −1.9% to $141.81, Huntington Ingalls (HII) −0.4%, Curtiss-Wright (CW) −0.9%. Within power, the picture was mixed — Constellation (CEG) +0.2% and GE Vernova (GEV) +0.2% firmed while the regulated utilities eased, NextEra (NEE) −2.8% and PSEG (PEG) −2.6%, as rates and rotation weighed.
The catalysts ahead are regulatory and structural. The NRC's final Environmental Impact Statement for GLE's Paducah laser-enrichment facility is a milestone for domestic enrichment capacity. BWXT reports Q3 on Nov 2 and NANO Nuclear delivers FY2026 results around Nov 15. The Westinghouse/US-government definitive agreements that would replace the binding term sheet are targeted by year-end, and the Xe-100 construction-permit review hits an NRC milestone Dec 16. Further out, the termination of Russian LEU import waivers in 2028 remains the structural anchor for the enrichment build-out that names like Centrus are positioned against — the supply-security case that today's spot-price wobble doesn't change.
