The reactor-and-fuel engineering side rallied on the day's energy bid while the uranium-mining complex sold off with risk assets.

The reactor-and-fuel engineering side rallied even as the broad market fell. BWX Technologies (BWXT) jumped 6.1% to $161.54, the basket's leader, as the day's energy bid — crude surged on renewed Iran-war strikes, and energy was the S&P's best sector — met a name that sits on two of nuclear's hardest chokepoints: sole-source naval reactor manufacturing and the emerging Army/DOE microreactor build, where its selection under the Janus program to deploy an advanced microreactor at Fort Campbell underpins the franchise. Japan Steel Works' ADR (JPSWY) matched it at +6.1% on the heavy-forging chokepoint for reactor pressure vessels, while Fluor (FLR) added 3.2% to $56.25 and Mirion (MIR) 2.9% to $15.51.

The split ran straight down the fuel cycle. The uranium-mining and spot side sold with the risk-off: Denison Mines (DNN) −5.6% to $3.20, the basket's worst, alongside Uranium Energy (UEC) −5.3% to $11.59, NexGen (NXE) −5.2% to $9.93, enCore (EU) −4.8%, the Sprott Uranium Miners ETF (URNM) −3.8%, and physical uranium (SRUUF) −2.5%. There was no supply news behind it — it is beta unwinding, not a signal on the fuel strait, which remains structurally tight.

The divergence is the story: the engineering, enrichment and utility side held while the miners fell. Centrus (LEU), the domestic HALEU-enrichment chokepoint, slipped just 1.8% to $168.31; Cameco (CCJ) −2.5% to $96.26; NuScale (SMR) −0.6%. Power utilities were outright green — Constellation (CEG) +2.0% to $280.31, Vistra (VST) +0.5%, NextEra (NEE) +0.7% — riding the same electricity-scarcity bid that lifted the compute basket. The SMR-newbuild names were mixed to lower: Oklo (OKLO) −5.0% to $38.53 and NANO Nuclear (NNE) −4.5% gave back with the high-beta cohort.

The near calendar is busy. Solstice Advanced Materials (SOLS) reports Q2 today; the World Nuclear Symposium convenes in London September 9–11; and the NRC's final Environmental Impact Statement for GLE's Paducah laser-enrichment facility — a domestic-enrichment chokepoint milestone — is expected by month-end. Further out, BWXT reports Q3 on November 2, and Westinghouse's definitive agreements with the US government, replacing the binding term sheet, are expected to firm up before year-end.
