The turbine-and-grid chokepoint led on a Korea HVDC deal while the SMR developers unwound their monthly run.
The buildable end of the nuclear supply chain led Wednesday. GE Vernova was the desk's leader, up 2.8% to $953.09, after announcing a high-voltage direct-current joint venture with LS Electric aimed at Korea's next-generation grid, the latest in a run of higher-margin power-and-grid wins that has come with raised multi-year guidance. GE Vernova is the turbine, transmission and grid-orchestration chokepoint — the equipment that turns a reactor's heat into dispatchable electricity and moves it — which is why it trades as much on the datacenter power build as on the reactor renaissance itself.
The laggard was the small-modular-reactor developer chokepoint, giving back a chunk of a strong month. Oklo fell 6.0% to $41.60 on no fresh fundamental catalyst — a momentum unwind after the pre-revenue SMR names ran hard — and the cohort moved together: NuScale dropped 5.5% to $9.27 even after flagging an operational win, NANO Nuclear 3.8% to $18.50, X-Energy 4.4% to $18.26 and enrichment name Centrus 3.0% to $187.63. These are the capital-heaviest links in the chain, years of spend ahead of commercial revenue, so they carry the most sentiment beta in both directions.
The rest of the basket held up better where there are cash flows today. The engineered-components and naval side was bid — BWXT +2.3% to $153.16, Huntington Ingalls +1.8% to $296.40 and Curtiss-Wright +1.6% to $619.46 — and the utility-and-fuel anchors were steady, with Cameco +0.4% to $107.36, Constellation +0.4% to $279.52 and Vistra +0.7% to $140.03. The uranium miners leaned soft: Uranium Energy −1.1%, NexGen −1.2%, Energy Fuels −1.7% to $15.70 and Denison −2.4%, a mild give-back at the front of the fuel chokepoint.
The calendar runs regulatory into the fall. Solstice Advanced Materials reports Q2 on September 2, the World Nuclear Symposium is in London September 9–11, and the NRC's final Environmental Impact Statement for GLE's Paducah laser-enrichment facility is expected by month-end — a real marker for domestic enrichment capacity. BWXT reports Q3 on November 2, the Xe-100 construction-permit review hits an NRC milestone December 16, and the Westinghouse/US-government definitive agreements and Bulgaria's Kozloduy 7-8 AP1000 final investment decision are both expected in the second half — the deployment catalysts that would move the buildable names that led Wednesday.
