Huntington Ingalls crushed Q2 and raised shipbuilding guidance to lead a nuclear complex that re-rated with the AI-power thesis — SMRs, enrichment and uranium all ran, and only a regulated utility ended red.
Huntington Ingalls led the vertical with a +14.1% jump to $319.90 on a quarter that beat on both lines and lifted the outlook. Q2 revenue of $3.42 billion topped the $3.20 billion consensus, EPS of $5.27 crushed the $3.84 estimate, and management raised full-year shipbuilding revenue guidance to $10.2–10.4 billion while lifting the low end of its margin range. New awards of $6.7 billion pushed backlog to $57.3 billion. This is the naval-nuclear chokepoint at its most concentrated: Newport News is the sole builder of U.S. aircraft carriers and co-produces the Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines, whose reactor cores come from BWX Technologies — a two-supplier bottleneck the backlog now books years deep.
The lone decliner of note was NextEra, off just −0.6% to $87.93 — regulated-utility ballast lagging as capital chased higher-beta power and reactor names. In a basket this green, the "laggard" barely moved; the story was breadth, not weakness.
That breadth ran straight through the chokepoints the vertical maps. Advanced-reactor developers led — NuScale +13.3%, NANO Nuclear +12.1%, X-Energy +11.7%, Oklo +11.5%, Lightbridge +10.5% — as the AI-datacenter power-demand thesis re-rated alongside the tech complex; Microsoft's demand-first capex framing a day earlier is, at bottom, a statement about electricity. The fuel chokepoint moved with them: Centrus Energy +10.7% on enrichment and HALEU, uranium miners Uranium Energy +7.7%, Denison +8.6%, Cameco +4.3%, NexGen +4.4%, and the Sprott Uranium Miners ETF +4.9%. Reactor components and grid-scale power rounded it out — BWXT +5.2%, Curtiss-Wright +5.5%, GE Vernova +9.1%, Talen +5.2%, Vistra +4.1%, Constellation +2.2% (reporting Q2 that day), and ATI +2.2%.
The dated calendar is immediate. Cameco reports Q2 before the open on July 31, with the market watching its Westinghouse equity contribution; BWX Technologies follows on August 3; Centrus Energy on August 4; and Curtiss-Wright after the close on August 5. With Constellation, Mirion and ATI already on the tape from July 30, the coming week turns the vertical's read from sentiment — the AI-power narrative that lifted it Thursday — into fuel-cycle and reactor-component fundamentals.
