A hawkish Fed hold de-rated the entire long-duration nuclear complex — not a single reactor name closed green — while Mirion gave back 13% in its first session after a top-line miss.
No name in the reactor basket actually rose on Wednesday. The nominal leader was Japan Steel Works' thin ADR (JPSWY +0.3% to $22.45) — the reactor-vessel forging chokepoint, one of only a handful of shops worldwide that can forge large-scale pressure vessels — but a fractional move on a lightly traded line is a placeholder, not a rally. The read for the whole vertical is macro: the Fed held rates in a split 9-3 vote, with three regional presidents pressing for a hike, and the 10-year yield jumped seven basis points past 4.67%. The nuclear-renaissance trade is a long-duration bet on power demand a decade out, and that is exactly the kind of cash flow a yield spike marks down.
Mirion was the laggard, −13.2% to $14.57, in its first full session after Tuesday's Q2 print. The quarter was not weak on substance — adjusted EPS of $0.12 beat the $0.10 consensus and nuclear-power orders rose about 50% excluding M&A — but revenue missed and organic growth was only around 1%, and a rich multiple meeting a top-line miss on a risk-off day is a recipe for exactly this. Mirion owns the radiation-detection and measurement chokepoint: the dosimetry and instrumentation every reactor, every RTQA lab, and every new build must buy. The 50% order jump matters more to the thesis than one quarter's revenue timing, but a de-risking tape does not grade backlog.
The developers took the brunt, as pure duration always does. NuScale −7.7% to $7.59, Nano Nuclear −7.3% to $14.88, BWX Technologies −7.2% to $157.44, Oklo −6.9% to $36.84, Centrus −5.9% to $159.69. The fuel cycle held up better — Cameco −2.7% to $84.57, the Sprott uranium miners fund (URNM) −2.5% — and Constellation was the steadiest of all at −0.7% to $257.95, the least-bad name in the basket heading into its own report.
The calendar is a wall of prints. Constellation reports Q2 today (July 30); Cameco follows July 31, with its Westinghouse equity contribution the number to watch. BWX Technologies lands August 3-4, Centrus August 4-6, Curtiss-Wright August 5, and Talen plus X-Energy — the latter's first full quarter as a public company — August 6. The SMR developers close out the run: Oklo on August 10 and NuScale on August 12. With duration re-pricing driving the tape, these results are where the reactor trade either re-earns its multiple or keeps giving it back.
