The advanced-reactor cohort de-rated again — every SMR name fell 8-9% as investors demanded milestones over hype, leaving a flat uranium trust the board's only gainer.
There was effectively no winner on the nuclear board Friday. The nominal leader was the Sprott Physical Uranium Trust, up 0.3% to $18.82 — the uranium-supply chokepoint holding roughly flat while everything levered to reactor timelines sold off. When the top of a basket is a spot-uranium vehicle up a third of a percent, the read is simple: the tape had no appetite for the story stocks, only the metal itself.
X-Energy was the laggard, down 8.5% to $14.56, and it fell as one of a cohort rather than alone. The advanced-reactor and SMR platforms de-rated in lockstep — Oklo down 8.5% to $40.25, NuScale off 8.2% to $8.09, Nano Nuclear down 7.6% to $15.59 — as investors rotated out of pre-revenue, AI-power-narrative names and demanded evidence the reactors hit their milestones. X-Energy sits in the fuel-fabrication chokepoint on its TRISO pebble fuel, but Friday it traded as what the market now treats it as: a zero-revenue timeline bet with a stretched valuation and no dated catalyst to defend it.
The fuel cycle softened too, though less violently. Centrus fell 4.0% to $163.89 on the enrichment-and-HALEU line, Uranium Energy 3.3%, the URNM miners index 3.2% and Cameco 1.6% to $87.86. The defensive end of the vertical — operating capacity and heavy components — held: Huntington Ingalls rose 0.2%, Curtiss-Wright finished roughly flat, BWX Technologies eased 1.2% to $174.52 and Constellation slipped 0.5%. The split is the whole story: revenue and reactors that already exist held; promises about reactors that don't, didn't.
Next week brings the prints that matter for the cash-generating tier: NextEra on July 29; Mirion, Constellation and ATI on July 30; and Cameco on July 31, with its Westinghouse equity contribution — the clearest read on real reactor-build economics. BWX Technologies (Aug 3) and Centrus (Aug 4) follow. For the SMR platforms, the only thing that arrests a de-rate like Friday's is a hard, dated milestone — a fuel load, a criticality, a signed offtake — and the calendar has none inside the window.
