A quiet nuclear tape: the grid-and-SMR complex led a bounce off GE Vernova's earnings-day drop while uranium and enrichment names drifted into a heavy print week.

GE Vernova led the quotable set, up 4.7% to $1,031.19, a dip-buy after its own July 22 report knocked it 8.7% the prior session on a GAAP EPS miss even as orders grew 88% organically and backlog hit $176B. GEV is the pivot between this vertical's two chokepoints — the grid gear that decides how fast reactors and datacenters interconnect, and the GE Hitachi BWRX-300 that anchors the near-term SMR pipeline — so Thursday's move was the market deciding Wednesday's sell-off overshot a name whose backlog says the bottleneck is tightening, not loosening. There was no fresh nuclear catalyst behind it; it was valuation, not new information.

X-Energy was the laggard, down 3.2% to $15.92, a drift in a pre-revenue SMR developer with no company-specific news — its first full quarter as a public company doesn't report until early-to-mid August, and the name trades on sentiment and cash-runway math until then. The decline sits alongside soft fuel-cycle names and reads as positioning ahead of a crowded earnings slate, not a disclosed setback; absent a catalyst, the move is qualitative.

The rest of the board was mixed and thin on nuclear-specific news. The defense-and-industrial names caught the broader RTX/AeroVironment updraft — Huntington Ingalls +3.5% to $287.09, Fluor +3.2% to $53.26, Curtiss-Wright +2.4% to $750.03, and Japan Steel Works +2.9% to $23.66 — while Brookfield Renewable added 2.7% to $33.07, NuScale 1.5% to $8.81, and Mirion 1.7% to $16.88. The fuel-cycle complex leaked lower: NANO Nuclear −2.5% to $16.88, Energy Fuels −2.4% to $12.01, Centrus −2.0% to $170.78, Cameco −1.2% to $89.33, and Oklo −1.1% to $44.00. It was a session where the grid and the shipyard led and the uranium-and-enrichment chokepoint took a breather.

That breather ends next week. NextEra reports July 29; Constellation, ATI, and Mirion print July 30; and Cameco's July 31 result — the definitive read on the Westinghouse equity contribution — sits at the center of the calendar. BWX Technologies (Aug 3–4), Centrus and Talen (Aug 6), and X-Energy's own first public quarter (Aug 6–13) follow, before the World Nuclear Symposium convenes in London Sep 9. The fuel-cycle names that drifted today are the ones with the most to prove when the numbers land.
