Nuclear's rebound was split on July 8 — uranium and fuel names bounced 2-3% with enCore +3.2% while the SMR developers stayed soft, NuScale -2.2%.
enCore Energy (EU) closed up 3.2% at $1.30 to top the nuclear basket, but the more telling signal was which part of the complex rebounded and which did not. On a session that saw a chip-led bid — the Nasdaq 100 +0.3% on Broadcom (+4.8%) and Nvidia (+3.7%) — but a Dow down 577 points and the S&P off 0.3% as oil and yields rose on President Trump's remark that the Iran ceasefire was "over," the uranium-supply chokepoint caught the risk-on flow. enCore, an in-situ-recovery producer, moved with the fuel complex rather than on any company news: Energy Fuels (UUUU) +2.2% to $13.14 and, at the fuel-fabrication node, X-Energy (XE) +2.5% to $16.96 — recovering part of its 9.7% July 7 drop.
The laggard was the SMR-platforms chokepoint. NuScale Power (SMR) fell 2.2% to $8.76, and Oklo (OKLO) −1.3% to $47.28 sat beside it — the pre-revenue reactor developers that stayed soft even as the fuel names bid. Both are long-dated buildout stories whose payoff is measured in years of licensing and construction, and on a day rising rates and a defensive Dow argued against duration, the market was again willing to pay for near-term fuel and delivered power but reluctant to underwrite reactors that turn on late this decade. The structural read: the uranium and fuel-fabrication chokepoints are re-rating on the AI-power demand narrative faster than the reactors that will consume that fuel.
Elsewhere the tape was constructive but modest. Instrumentation and advanced fuel firmed — Mirion (MIR) +2.4% to $16.44 and Lightbridge (LTBR) +2.3% to $8.42 — and among the restart-and-utility names, Constellation (CEG) +2.0% to $244.52 held the profitable end of the vertical. At the large-forgings chokepoint, Japan Steel Works was effectively flat in its July 8 Tokyo session, the Muroran press house unmoved by the US tape. This was a selective bounce concentrated in uranium supply and fuel, not a wholesale re-rating of the buildout.
Q2 earnings anchor the next month. NextEra reports July 29; Constellation, Mirion and ATI on July 30; Cameco July 31 — watch the Westinghouse equity contribution — then BWX Technologies on August 3-4 and Centrus August 4-6. On policy, the DOE Reactor Pilot Program's target of three or more advanced-reactor criticalities remains the concrete test of whether the buildout timeline the market keeps discounting is genuinely slipping or simply out of favor.
