GE Vernova and the SMR developers rally on a power-demand upgrade while the uranium miners give back ground in the rate-driven risk-off.

GE Vernova (GEV) led the nuclear basket, up 6.8% to $1,048.86, on a Bernstein SocGen initiation (Outperform, $1,206 target) framed around energy-security and decarbonization demand. GEV's nuclear relevance runs through the GE Hitachi BWRX-300 small modular reactor — one of the most commercially advanced SMR designs — plus the grid equipment every reactor needs to deliver power to load. The advanced-reactor developers moved with it: X-Energy (XE +5.8%, $22.88), NANO Nuclear (NNE +5.4%, $25.31), NuScale (SMR +4.6%, $10.34), and Oklo (OKLO +2.4%, $58.82) all gained, with the SMR-deployment chokepoint — getting first units to criticality — the shared driver.

enCore Energy (EU) was the steepest decliner, down 3.0% to $1.62, with no company-specific news; the uranium-mining complex pulled back broadly as the Fed's hawkish dot plot lifted yields and prompted profit-taking after a strong run. Uranium Energy (UEC −2.1%, $11.42) and Cameco (CCJ −2.0%, $105.67) eased in sympathy. The fuel-supply chokepoint — domestic mining and conversion — remains structurally bid, but it trades with risk sentiment on quiet-news days like this one.

The split between reactor developers (higher) and fuel miners (lower) defined the session. Constellation (CEG −0.3%, $267.17) and Energy Fuels (UUUU −0.3%) were roughly flat. The HALEU-enrichment chokepoint — Centrus and the domestic enrichment buildout that the entire advanced-reactor fleet depends on for fuel — was quiet ahead of its next print.

Energy Fuels targets full-year uranium guidance by mid-year (~June 30), and White Mesa's heavy-rare-earth circuit modifications begin around July 1. The DOE Reactor Pilot Program's target of three-plus advanced-reactor criticalities is the July 4 milestone to watch — the binding test of whether SMR deployment timelines are real. Cameco's Q2 (July 31, with the Westinghouse equity contribution) and Centrus's Q2 (August 4, the enrichment read) follow.
